Natural Weekend

I am so glad the weekend is here. I have noticed that I never show you how I dress on the weekends so I decided to start documenting this. I must admit that when clothes shopping I am always looking for work clothes and haven't really invested in "week-end" clothes. I wonder if everyone else separates their clothes from work and weekend...Sally did a post once that suggested to intergrate the two but I can't for the life of figure out how to do it.

 Got up early this morning and my mother and I walked on the Greenway - I did 4 miles today, it is soo nice there. I really enjoy the views and it brings me peace. My mother bought me the newest James Patterson book,  Now You See Her, and The Postcard Killer. I also bought myself the Help because I have heard so much about it. I am halfway through Now You See Her. Then I went to Dunbar Cave where they had a band and refreshments at the mouth of the cave. The cave acts as a natural air conditioner. It was amazing to me that is really WAS cool and I enjoyed the people watching. It was a mixed crowd. I also decided that it would be a great place for summer wedding. I wish I had taken better pictures.

 The neat thing about this was my grandmother said this where she met my grandfather, they used to have dances here when Roy Acuff owned it. I found the picture below on the internet. It was fascinating to think about all the dancing and the music that used to take place there. My generation doesn't have anything like this. That is neat to think about the good times that used to be there and how over the years it  has changed. I would have liked to have seen it back in the day through my grandparents eyes.

So today my cubicle neighbor and friend and I ended up dressed exactly alike today and it was too funny. I had to get a pic of him above to show the "twinkies" LOL Funny that he is already a twin too. I've worn the outfit today before but I really like it - my daughter gave me the blouse. Mr Man ordered pizza for dinner so I showed no self-control. I am sure the scale will remind me of my indiscretion. HAHA I am glad the week is over and get to wake up with money in the bank at least for minute. Money is hard these days and it seems to be that way for most of the people around me. I am very fortunate that I have a really good job and that I work for a wonderful company but everything around me is getting so expensive. Gas, electricity, and groceries, I am very thankful that I learned to thrift for my clothes as that does help out and still allows me to find some really nice clothes. I just pray the government works things out this week, my grandmother is really worried she will not get her social security check next month. I just keep thinking (or keep trying to think) positive thoughts. Have you found any new thrifting stores or websites?

 I am so excited, I did my first attempt of putting up corn. Mr. Man brought some in from our garden, I shucked it, then had to call my grandmother to find what to do with it after that. You know I find it interesting that as I am getting older I am wanting to learn how to can and put up vegetables and experimenting with cooking and recipes. In my youth, I thought the kitchen was a place to grab a cola and had no idea how to cook anything that did not come in a box or frozen.  Not that "they" didn't try to teach me - I was much more interested in curling up with a book than learning to cook - bleh was my opinion.

Now I want to make my own stuff to freeze for later. We are also big about doing most of the cooking for the week the weekend before. It just makes life so much easier during the week to come from work and heat something up - makes dinner over with early so I can get kitchen cleaning out of the way and enjoy the rest of my evening. I also lay my clothes out the night before and make my breakfast/lunch for work the night before. I have even started filling the other sink with water for rinsing < GASP > I am doing everything "they" told me to do when I was young to which my response was to roll my eyes ( to myself of course as I may  not have had them to roll should "they" have seen me roll them).

I keep trying to put my finger on when I became like "them" but I can't really figure out exactly when that transformation occurred. I don't think it's a bad thing, just that I have recently became aware. Of course, the canning and food preparation has some to do with also trying to cut costs. I have noticed that alot more people are now growing their own food and canning. What about you? Have you taken on the traits of "them" and gone back to your roots?

Stay with me Summer

Whew, Man oh Man it has been HOT!! I keep forgetting to take pictures of my outfit so you will have to pretend to be entertained with my plants :) I am still loving my job and the group I work with. I have really enjoyed my time off from school but August 16 is looming closer and closer. I keep telling myself I'm not crazy to pursue this.  I don't know about you but this summer has flown by the end of July, I can see fall peeking around the corner. I absolutely LOVE summer. I am still trying to work up the nerve to attempt canning - so far only made tomato sauce and salsa that I froze. Garden did not product any squash or cucumbers to my disappointment.  BUT..... Mr. Man just came in proudly showing me some good looking and edible corn this year!!! YAHHHH

New Family Member :)

Wow, has it really been that long since I blogged. Alot has happened, I finished my BA and start on my MBA on August 16. I have truly enjoyed my freedom. I have been catching up on some reading - finally finished James Patterson Witch and Wizard - The Gift and read Sam's letter to Jennifer and now I have started Her Fearful Symmtery by Audrey Niffenegger which is really good, this was a suggested reading by Kristine that she brought me to check out.

My daughter turned 18 and then she recently got married July 19, 2011. They got married by the Justice of the Peace and said they would have a proper wedding later. Then Shelley got a scare when the doctor found a lump in her breast. We had the ultrasound on Friday and they feel that it is benign but will still get a biopsy to make sure. I have faith that all is well. I have missed blogging and hope that I can now start focusing on the things I love.
